New England Institute of Technology Partners with the Rhode Island Association of Realtors

Warwick, RI – Steven H. Kitchin, Vice President for Corporate Education and Training at New England Institute of Technology (NEIT), announced that the college will offer a customized degree program to the members and member firms of the Rhode Island Association of Realtors (RIAR). Individuals who successfully complete the required coursework will earn an Associate in Science degree in Applied Technical Studies (ATS). The program will be conducted by the college’s Office of Teaching and Learning and coordinated by NEIT’s Center for Technology and Industry.

As Kitchin stated, “The Applied Technical Studies program at New England Tech is just one example of how the college’s Center for Technology and Industry addresses the educational and training needs of employers and their workforce. Through the ATS program, the Rhode Island Association of Realtors can offer its members the opportunity to build their education and professional experience to better service their clients.”

The Applied Technical Studies curriculum consists of a minimum of 92 quarter credits. Thirty-two (32) credits must be in liberal arts courses. Of the remaining 60 technical credits, 30 must be in one specialized concentration of technology, such as but not limited to, Building Construction, Architectural Engineering, Refrigeration/Air Conditioning/Heating, Electrical Technology, Interior Design, Information Technology, Plumbing, Business Management and other areas. To complete the degree requirements, the remaining 30 credits may be selected from any number of technical programs offered at New England Tech.

Applicants may be eligible for advanced standing for completion of specific Rhode Island Board of Realtors (RIBOR) courses. Individuals will have the opportunity to transfer credits from another accredited post-secondary institution based on NEIT’s policies. Course credits may be earned through the successful completion of challenge exams and portfolio reviews based on relevant experience.

“The demands placed on today’s real estate professionals continues to grow at a rapid pace,” according to Norma Mousseau, Professional Development Manager, at RIAR. “Our goal is to offer our members the opportunity to broaden their base of knowledge by earning an Associate in Science degree in Applied Technical Studies in order to stay competitive in this volatile real estate market. Our Association is thrilled that New England Tech has stepped forward with its ATS program which is truly unique to the real estate industry.”
