Steve Jason, one of New England Tech’s Plumbing Technology Department adjunct instructors, is a great guy! This past summer he volunteered as a plumbing instructor for several Boy Scout troops camping at Yawgoog Scout Reservation in Hope Valley, Rhode Island. For the past three years, Steve has been an Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 44 from Chepachet, Rhode Island. His 13 year old son, Greg, is a member of this troop so every July, Steve and Greg spend a week together at Yawgoog.
While they were at camp this summer, Greg decided to earn a merit badge in plumbing (like father, like son) so Steve tagged along to see what was being taught. Steve offered a few suggestions to the scouts and soon realized that he could put his teaching skills to good use. The Boy Scout Administration saw how well Steve worked with the boys so they asked him if he could work with more scouts throughout the remainder of the summer. Of course, Steve said yes and continued to help the scouts complete their plumbing merit badge requirements every Thursday afternoon.
Steve had so much fun helping the scouts that he has already volunteered his time for 10 sessions next summer! By Steve sharing his expertise with the Boy Scouts, maybe he is helping some future New England Tech students.
Nice work, Steve!
