Faculty News: Franklin Raposa, Sim Lab Specialist

Frank RaposaFrank comes to NEIT with experience in both the Information Technology industry and as a paramedic.

At American Power Conversion (APC), he was a Desktop Support Analyst, providing technical assistance to end users and, as Senior Events & Sponsorships Manager, where he worked to integrate new technologies to increase efficiency while reducing operating costs.

After becoming certified as an Emergency Medical Technician, he worked for an ambulance service and then for South Kingstown EMS. In his position as a paramedic, he was called upon to rapidly assess and treat life threatening illness or injury. He was also called upon for his IT skills to troubleshoot networks and to address communication issues between computers, cell phones and cardiac monitors.

Frank has a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information Sciences from the University of Rhode Island. He is also certified as an EMT – Paramedic, with licenses in RI and CT and is on the National Registry. He is also Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified. He has been a volunteer EMT, working at the University of Rhode Island EMS as Vice-Commander and as President of the Charlestown Rescue.

RN to BSN program achieves National Accreditation

New England Institute of Technology Receives National Accreditation for Its Online Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program

Sherman, Senior Vice President and Provost at New England Institute of Technology (NEIT), announced that the college has received accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) for its fully on-line Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) program.  As Rhode Island’s first and only on-line RN-BSN program, Registered Nurses will be prepared to meet the demands of the healthcare field by expanding and enhancing their nursing education. This program will train students for leadership roles and graduate studies in nursing with the next cohort beginning in October, 2014.  

The RN-BSN program is crafted to be relevant, engaging and fun. Students will be learning as part of a connected online community that provides support and broadens critical thinking while building camaraderie among other Registered Nurses enrolled in the program. As one student stated, “These classes are making me a better, safer nurse.”  

The on-line format is tailored to meet the needs of the working adult learner. Students have the opportunity to develop professional nursing leadership through clinical reasoning, management skills and competencies, and evaluation skills. Graduates of this program are prepared for positions in community health clinics, private practice, hospitals, and patient care facilities.

Faculty News: Suzan Menihan, Assistant Professor

suemenihanSuzan joins NEIT bringing her expertise in women’s health, midwifery and OB/GYN to the department. She has worked in private practices and hospitals. Early in her career, she was a staff nurse at South County Hospital and Westerly Hospital where she provided direct patient care for women and infants, and developed post-partum assessment teaching tools for staff. Later, she worked as a midwife in a variety of practices throughout the state and became a partner/owner of the first independent midwifery-owned OB/GYN practice in Rhode Island.

Her teaching experience includes having been a clinical preceptor for the University of Rhode Island’s graduate program in Nurse-Midwifery and in their undergraduate program in Women’s Health Care.

Suzan has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing both from the University of Rhode Island. She has earned numerous professional certifications in the field, including: Nurse-Midwife (American Midwifery Certification Board), First Assisting for Cesarean Birth, Master’s Colposcopy, Neonatal Resuscitation, CPR, and Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics.

Faculty News: Linda Lambert, Nursing Academic Fieldwork Coordinator

Linda LambertLinda is an experienced health care professional with varied experience in a wide range of health care settings throughout the state.

Her hospital experience includes working as an RN at Landmark Medical Center in the Emergency Unit and in Step-Down Telemetry providing direct care for patients. She then became Nursing Coordinator/Oncology Coordinator/Assistant Nurse Manager at Landmark, where she was responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care for two Medical-Surgical units and one Medical Telemetry unit. Most recently, she was Nurse Manager at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, responsible for the Medical/Surgical/Telemetry unit.

Outside of hospitals, she has worked at the VNA of Rhode Island as an IV Infusion Nurse/Hospice Team Member, as the Director of the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center (Home & Hospice Care of RI), and as the Regional Director of Nursing for Infusion Resource.

She holds an Associate in Science degree in Nursing from the Community College of Rhode Island and a Bachelor of Science degree in Social/Health Services/Health Administration from Roger Williams University. She is a licensed Registered Nurse in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and has numerous professional certifications.

On Thursday, October 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. students and alumni from the Health Care technologies at New England Tech are invited to attend the Health Care Employment Career Fair.
