Equipment Expansion in Engineering Programs

New England Tech has collaborated with Rockwell Automation, Inc. in the development of a new automation lab for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science Degree program in Electrical Engineering Technology (ELT) beginning in the 2014 fall quarter. These students will learn high tech skills on the latest equipment found in industry. Rockwell Automation personnel and New England Tech faculty worked together to procure the Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) network and drive hardware needed to create six new work stations. Through hands-on learning, students will acquire the high tech automation and process control skills required in the manufacturing industry.

NEIT has also added the Instron 5982 Advanced Mechanical Testing System to its extensive equipment inventory for students in the Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Technologies. The Instron 5982 provides students the opportunity to evaluate mechanical properties of materials and components used in a variety of industries. Typically found in commercial settings, the Instron 5982 is utilized in many industries such as automotive, aerospace, and major highway/bridge construction, to test materials used in manufacturing various products.

NEIT Expands Hands-on Training in Engineering Technology Programs

EAST GREENWICH, RI – New England Institute of Technology has added to its extensive equipment inventory in the engineering technology department with high-tech systems used in industry to provide enhanced hands-on training to students in the college’s Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Technologies. Today’s employers are seeking highly skilled technicians in the manufacturing and engineering fields. The Instron 5982 Advanced Mechanical Testing System will give students the opportunity to evaluate mechanical properties of materials and components used in a variety of industries.

Typically found in commercial settings, the Instron 5982 is utilized in many industries, such as automotive, aerospace, and major highway/bridge construction, to test materials used in manufacturing various products. The most common uses of such mechanical testing systems are for tensile (pulling), compression (crushing), bend, peel, shear, tear and cyclic tests to determine the best material to use to manufacture a product.  NEIT added the Instron 5982 to its lab equipment inventory so that engineering technology students in both the associate and bachelor’s degree programs are trained on state-of-the-art equipment, making these individuals highly sought after by today’s employers in the manufacturing and construction fields.

NEIT’s Mechanical Engineering Technology program is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

Civil Engineering Technology Comes to NEIT

Civil_Engineering_TechnologyBeginning in the fall, 2014, quarter, New England Tech will add an Associate in Science degree program in Civil Engineering Technology (CET) to its list of offerings. Graduates of this program may matriculate into the Bachelor of Science degree program in Civil Engineering Technology currently under development.

The new CET program will prepare graduates to serve as an integral member of the engineering and construction team. A Civil Engineering Technologist designs, engineers, analyzes, and assists in the supervision of building construction and infrastructure projects such as roadways, bridges, and environmental facilities. The program emphasizes the practical application of construction technology and engineering principles that include the engineering, economic, safety, technical, and aesthetic requirements of a project while applying the scientific and technical aspects of materials, soils, planning, surveying, structures, environmental systems, and construction.

Civil Engineering Technology courses focus on civil engineering technology fundamentals including: computer aided drafting geared for the Civil Engineering industry (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D), construction documents, estimating, materials, structural analysis and design, surveying, and soil mechanics. Students will also conduct field and laboratory testing on civil engineering materials and use computer applications to solve technical problems.
