New England Tech Student Elected To Local Government

New England Tech student holds office in Seekonk MAEvan Berwick, a first year student Video & Audio Production student at New England Tech, has been elected to the School Board in his hometown of Seekonk, Massachusetts.

Evan ran on the platform of adding “fresh blood” into a committee that were far removed – age wise – from the age of those actually attending schools, and looking into ways to add new revenue into the town’s education budget without raising resident taxes.

Berwick didn’t run on a whim – he’d been contemplating the decision since his senior year at Seekonk High School, but wasn’t eligible due to the date of his 18th birthday in relation to the town’s nomination deadline.

Of his time at New England Tech, Berwick has said that he based his decision to attend on a number of factors, including a desire to stay close to home, and the need for “a hands-on, practical atmosphere” to suit his learning style.
