20th Annual New England Tech TechXpo a Success!

The Career Services Office at NEIT hosted it’s 20th annual TechXpo Career Fair on the East Greenwich Campus on Thursday, March 9th. The well-attended event attracted over 60 employers from the region who were impressed by the level of quality of both current students and alumni. Jeremy Girard of Envision Technology Advisors, who is an NEIT alumnus from ’00, commented that,

“The weakest candidate I saw here today was better than the best candidate I’ve seen at other career fairs.”

Many of the employers in attendance were NEIT alumni, with about 25 in total returning to the college to represent their respective companies. A few representatives even made a point to stay after the event to visit with instructors they had while they were in school.

Students and alumni who were able to speak with employers expressed the importance of this event and how they felt it prepared them for employment. In addition to learning more about the companies themselves, attendees also learned about types positions in their field they might not have thought of. One IT student explained,

“Getting to know what companies are looking for is more than just helpful, it’s essential.”

The TechXpo is the biggest career fair that the Career Services Office hosts, and one of several technology-tailored career fairs held annually. These events are only open to NEIT students and alumni, and are not open to the public. NEIT would like to thank the students and staff who volunteered and helped to make this another great event! For a list of companies who attended the event, and their contact information, please visit the Career Services Office in S104.

Technology Career Expo ‘14

8-Tech Career ExpoPat Blakemore, Director of Career Services, and the entire staff of the Career Services Office worked diligently to ensure the success of the Technology Career Expo’ 14. NEIT students and graduates had the opportunity to speak about current and future employment opportunities with representatives from 68 companies who participated in the Expo on March 6th. This event is one of five annual career expos hosted by the Career Services Office, each one offering NEIT students and graduates the opportunity to network with potential employers related to their degree programs.

Many of the students who took advantage of the opportunity to meet these employers were able to secure interviews while others already have job offers. One employer commented: “We have so many solid candidates from the job fair that we have to make some difficult choices on who to bring on board.”

“One thing that really helped me after the Career Expo was writing those thank you letters to the companies for taking the time to talk to me. In addition once I received a one on one interview I brought in nice copies of my resume, references, and letters of recommendations from my teachers. The companies really appreciated the extra effort and plus it gives them something to look at while interviewing. Thanks again for everything.” – Jennifer Adamek, CBYT student who received 2 job offers as a result of attending the Career Expo event.
