New England Tech offers degree programs for 6 of these 10 fastest-growing 2018 occupations

The New Year is a natural time for many to assess their lives and careers. If you’re thinking about a career move in 2018, your timing is great. With the lowest unemployment rate in 17 years (4.1%) the labor market is tight, which means 2018 should be favorable for most job seekers.

Among the top dissatisfiers in the job market across all industry segments is a lack of flexibility in the traditional work week schedule. Whether it’s because of a child or parent care responsibilities, or just a desire to work flexible hours or a percentage of time telecommuting, a growing percentage of the workforce is seeking career options that offer some kind of flexible schedule.

In fact, according to a report published in December 2017 by FlexJobs, a job service company that helps clients find flexible jobs, workers who say they’ve quit a job due to lack of flexi-time has increased from 17% in 2014 to 32% in 2017.

This trend is happening on both sides, as an increasing number of employers are outsourcing their staffing needs. Many are embracing the “just in time” temporary staffing model or downsizing permanent full-time employees in favor of hiring freelance workers.

FlexJobs has compiled a list of the 10 fastest-growing jobs in the U.S. which regularly come with flex-time options, such as a part-time schedule, a telecommuting arrangement, a flexible work week schedule, or freelance work. New England Institute of Technology offers degree programs for six of these 10 career paths.
