New England Institute of Technology graduate Brian Bouyea – screenwriter, and founder and executive director of Root Beer Studios, cleaned up at this year’s 2017 Providence RI 48 Film Project for his film Homestead.

Brian’s winning entry will be going on to screen at Filmapalooza 2018 in Paris, France.

The western genre film he directed took numerous top awards – most notably “Best Film.” His production was also awarded in the categories of best sound design, best editing, best cinematography, best and best acting.

The 48 Hour Film Project is a wild and sleepless weekend in which a team makes a movie – write, shoot, and edit – in just 48 hours. On Friday night, teams draw a genre from a hat. They are then given a character, prop and line to include in their films. On Sunday night, in a wild dash to the drop off event, the film is turned in. The films are then screened in front of an audience of filmmakers, friends, and families.

Brian is no novice filmmaker. He was director and screenwriter of the suspense thriller Famous, which explores the desire within humanity to become more than who we really are. He was also director and screenwriter of The Network, a terrifying film that follows a sadistic serial killer who stalks and murders young high school students through a social networking site known as MyFriends; and wrote and directed the 2015 film The Case of the Open Door.

Brian’s Root Beer Studios is an independent motion picture company based in Rhode Island. With the mission of “Making Modern Movies Classic,” Root Beer Studios has produced feature-length films, film festival shorts, and countless client videos.

Brian says that he’s had a passion for acting, art, and filmmaking all of his life. A 2012 graduate of New England Tech, he holds an Associate degree in Audio and Video Production. He’s in love with the spirit of independent filmmaking and the opportunity it’s given him to tell his stories to the world.
