New England Tech Professor Receives Two Textbook Awards by TAA

Congratulations to Dr. Timothy Henry, Professor, Information Technology, on winning two 2018 @textandacademic textbook excellence awards!

On February 20Amazon book: A Gift of Fire: Social, Legal, and Ethical Issues for Computing Technology (5th Edition)18, it was announced that two separate books co-authored by New England Institute of Technology professor Timothy Henry were among the 26 books to receive a 2018 Textbook & Academic Authors Association (TAA) award.

The first, “A Gift of Fire: Social, Legal, and Ethical Issues for Computing Technology,” by Timothy Henry and Sara Baase, is the winner of the 2018 TAA Textbook Excellence Award, which recognizes excellence in current textbooks and learning materials. Works are judged by textbook authors and subject matter experts for their merits in four areas:

  • Pedagogy
  • Content/Scholarship
  • Writing
  • Appearance & Design

The judge’s comments included: “A Gift of Fire is a tremendously comprehensive text that covers the main ethical and social issues that loom large with the ubiquity of technology in our world today. Each chapter is loaded with well-referenced, up-to-date information. Amazon book: Data Abstraction & Problem Solving with C++: Walls and Mirrors (7th Edition)Another of Henry’s books, “Data Abstraction & Problem Solving with C++: Walls and Mirrors, 7th ed.,” co-authored with Frank Carrano, was published in 2016. It received TAA’s 2018 McGuffey Longevity Award, which recognizes textbooks and learning materials whose excellence has been demonstrated over time.

Mr. Henry will be a presenter at the TAA book awards ceremony reception, which will be held during TAA’s 31st Annual Textbook & Academic Authoring Conference in Santa Fe, NM, June 15, 2018.
