New England Institute of Technology Students Take Top Honors at 2018 SkillsUSA Championships

We’re excited to announce that our students had an impressive showing at the annual SkillsUSA national competition held in Louisville, KY last week. Several New England Institute of Technology students earned silver medals in the following competitions:

 

Event: Architectural Drafting – Silver Medal (out of 26 contestants)
Michael Webb

Event: Crime Scene Investigation (Team of 3) – Silver Medal (out of 11 teams)
Dayna Koukas, Amber Robertson, Marissa Sposato

Event: Automotive Service Technology – 11th place (out of 53 contestants)

Nationally, more than 6,800 students competed in 108 occupational, leadership and skill competition areas, including 87 students from Rhode Island.

Earlier this year, New England Institute of Technology students won eight medals overall and took GOLD in each of the four categories that they competed in during the SkillsUSA 42nd annual Rhode Island state Awards and Recognition Ceremony at the Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium in Providence.

SkillsUSA programs help to establish industry standards for job skill training in the classroom. These industry-driven competitive events are modeled after the Olympics where the top three individuals/ teams receive gold, silver, or bronze medals.

Designed for working automotive and transportation professionals, this bachelor’s degree program combines a solid foundation in general management with transportation-focused technical and business courses designed to prepare graduates for career advancement.
