Student Resources

To address the many aspects of student health and wellness, New England Tech has a number of resources in place, including partnership with CVS MinuteClinic for a variety of medical services.

Right now, with COVID in full swing, stress and anxiety are surging. That’s one more reason why we make sure students know a behavioral health counselor is available, and free of charge to all New England Tech students.

  • Health Services

NEIT is pleased to partner with the East Greenwich MinuteClinic, located inside CVS Pharmacy, to provide health services for our students. Adjacent to campus, the MinuteClinic is staffed by nurse practitioners and physician assistants and offers a variety of medical services for NEIT students. The MinuteClinic is open seven days a week, including evenings and weekends. Although appointments are not necessary, they may be scheduled ahead of time. For more information, or to view wait times, go to www.cvs.com/minuteclinic or the CVS Pharmacy app.

  • Health Requirements

All students are required to meet immunization requirements mandated by the Rhode Island Department of Health.

A completed NEIT Immunization Form, signed by a health care provider, must be returned as follows: Commuter students must submit their forms before the start of classes. Resident students must submit their forms prior to moving into the residence hall. Students are advised to review the key dates information for particular class starts. NEIT Immunization Forms are available to students at the time of enrollment. Additionally, students may click one of the two links below to print the appropriate form:

Student Immunization Form – for all students except those in Health Science programs

Student Immunization Form for Health Sciences – for students in Health Sciences programs, including nursing, surgical technology, respiratory care, medical laboratory technology, physical therapist assistant, occupational therapy assistant, occupational therapy, paramedic technology, health science and medical assisting and administration.

  • Health Insurance

To ensure that students get the care they need to stay in class and avoid the potential hardship of medical expenses, all on-campus residential and international students must have adequate health insurance as a condition of starting classes. Students have the option of either maintaining primary coverage through a family employee plan or private insurer; or, unless coverage is waived (declined), being enrolled automatically in the school-sponsored plan.

For the 2020-2021 academic year, our sponsored-student insurance plan is fully compliant with the provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), resulting in a comprehensive, benefit-rich plan that will greatly assist NEIT residential students.

    This plan features:

    • No annual policy year maximum
    • Annual deductibles: $200 In-Network and $400 Out-of-Network
    • Coverage at 80% In-Network & 60% Out-of-Network
    • Preventive care services with no deductibles, copays or coinsurance (In-Network Only)
    • Students will be able to locate providers whether at home, school, or throughout the country through the Cigna network
    • Retail or mail order prescription drug coverage
    • Worldwide Travel Assistance including Medical Evacuation, Repatriation
    • Wellness discounts including Vision and Dental
    • Affordable pricing for 12 months of comprehensive coverage

The cost of the plan is $2,050 for coverage from September 27, 2020, to September 26, 2021. For all residential and international students entering in the Fall 2020 Term, the full charge will be posted to student accounts and is payable with the Fall 2020 term tuition bill. The charge will remain until such time that an online waiver form is completed, demonstrating proof of comparable coverage. Waivers will only be accepted online through https://www.gallagherstudent.com.

For the deadline for waiving insurance, students should check the key date link (add link) for the term they will start their program. Health plan materials have been posted on the website in order to assist students in making their insurance decision. Please consider coverage options carefully. While a parent’s employer plan may provide adequate benefits close to home, HMO and PPO restrictions may limit coverage in the local area. The health insurance plan offered to New England Institute of Technology students can cover these gaps and the high cost of deductibles in employer plans.

  • Behavioral Health Counseling

A behavioral health counselor is located in the Office of Student Support Services on the East Greenwich campus. Counseling services are offered by appointment Monday through Friday. Students are welcome to stop by and set up an appointment in person or call the office at 401-739-5000, Ext. 3441. Counseling services are free to all NEIT students.

When meeting with the counselor, students can discuss whatever challenges and adjustments they are experiencing in their academic and personal lives, including adjusting to college demands and living away from home. While counseling services are typically meant for those students seeking short-term care, if students need long-term or specific services, the counselor will assist them with finding appropriate resources off campus.
