Alvin Needed An Accelerated Cybersecurity Program

Returning to College to Advance your Career is Trending

A returning student, Alvin wanted better career opportunities in a growing, competitive cybersecurity field.

Alvin Terrell (Cybersecurity and Network Engineering, ‘24), knows the power of New England Tech to launch him into a successful future.

As an Army veteran, a returning student, a transfer student from an online program, and a father with skilled work experience, he wanted a better opportunity in a growing, competitive cybersecurity field.

Alvin is gaining the competitive cybersecurity skills he needs at NEIT. After being frustrated with the solitary nature of online classes and lack of personal attention, Alvin realized there is no substitute for the hands-on experience he found at NEIT.

An Accelerated Program is what Alvin Needed

“To be able to earn my Cybersecurity associate degree in 18 months was a huge draw.” – Alvin Terrell

His transfer process to New England Tech was smooth; Alvin appreciated how professors are always willing to help. The accelerated pace — and his dedication — is setting him up for the career he wants. “To be able to earn my Cybersecurity associate degree in 18 months was a huge draw.”

He says his professors really take the time to make sure he understands the material. “They are always available to answer questions. I know I’m not all on my own. I have support.”

State-of-the-art Training in Cyber

The decision to transfer to New England Tech changed Alvin’s career path — and his life.

“I knew that at this university, they were going to help me find a job. That’s important for an adult learner like me who comes in and says, ‘I don’t want to waste a lot of time. I want to finish my degree and continue with my career. I still have bills to pay.’”

In 2023, NEIT launched a cybersecurity training range, a state-of-the-art virtual simulation platform for training students and IT professionals through exercises mirroring the complex real-world situations they face in the field. The partnership is between NEIT and Cyberbit, the market-leader in skill development.

Alvin is proud to step into the essential cybersecurity field with confidence thanks to New England Tech.
